Heats Up Early Against
Southwestern
The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point women�s soccer team got off
to a hot start on a scorching day Friday in Georgetown, Texas.
The Pointers scored five goals in the game�s first 53 minutes in
rolling to a 5-1 season-opening victory over Southwestern University on a
103-degree afternoon.
Stevens Point native Marie Muhvic scored two goals to begin her march
toward the all-time school scoring record. The goals gave her 46 for her
career and she needs 10 more to become the school�s all-time leading
goal scorer.
Muhvic scored the game�s first goal with assists from Jenny Bruce and
Macy Mory at the 4:31 mark. Stevens Point native Margaret Domka gave the
Pointers a 2-0 lead with a goal off an assist from Mickey Jacob.
The Pointers put the game away early in the second half with three
goals in a four minute span. Bruce scored from Jacob at the 48-minute mark
and Andrea Spiel scored from Andrea Oswald two minutes later. Muhvic
finished the scoring at the 52-minute mark with an assist from Molly Cady.
The Pointers outshot the Pirates 12-9. Abby Rabinovitz made two saves
for the Pointers, who will take on Trinity University (Tex.) Sunday in San
Antonio.
